Over the last several weeks I've been slowly putting together the new video editing desk build that you can see behind me and that includes the new M1 Ultra Max studio so in this video we'll be talking about the overall desk build that I did the monitor the speakers the desk itself the floating shelf and the textured design wall in the background with that cool tube light and if you want any of the products that I mentioned in this video I'll make sure I leave some links in the description so that you can find the exact product that I use they'll most likely be Amazon links so let's jump in and talk about this new video editing desk build foreign.

Stand-up desk an electric desk that can go from sitting all the way up to standing and the reason for having that is for my health it is not considered a very healthy thing to do to be sitting for many hours so being able to break it up every 20 or 30 or 40 minutes and then go to standing for 20 or 30 or 40 minutes it's a way to keep my joints and muscles not so stiff and over time that will be a very beneficial thing for me health-wise my goal in making this desk in terms of the design and how it looks was I wanted it to feel creative because how I make money is by being creative you know I produce videos for a living I'm heavily involved in cinematography and editing with my business every day and then as well here on YouTube so it's important to be in an environment that helps you be creative, just like our studio with making it look nice with the epoxy floors and the sound panels, I wanted to have something similar here where it wasn't just a desk with a computer on it; it's a desk with a computer on it. that I can go from sitting to standing for my health but also with the lighting and the textured wall and the floating shelf it feels a lot more like a fun creative space.

I did make a video a few years ago but the electric desk part but I since have changed the surface of the desk to this like longer desktop from Ikea it's not the highest quality desk I found it to actually be kind of cheap but it was inexpensive as well so I'm not really complaining you just have to be careful with where you connect it because it's actually like this coiled paper that's runs along the hole inside that supposed to give it its strength it does have sort of like a wood frame so just make sure if you are connecting things to it you are going into those wood frames if you do get the same surface top from Ikea.

Next on the desk is the main computer which is an apple M1 Ultra Max studio I don't necessarily need a super portable device but if I did need to do some something where I had to take the computer somewhere else it's small enough and fairly portable enough that I could put in a bag and that would be fine so for me I didn't really need the laptop so portability was less of a priority to me now this isn't a full review of the Mac Studio there's plenty on YouTube I might do like a follow-up for my thoughts after a few months with it but so far this computer has been amazing uh it's so fast and because it's the M1 Ultra which is two M1 Max chips put together it is extremely future proof it's going to last for a few years and I'm a big fan of the Mac operating system compared to Windows so having the M1 Ultra chips power in this small configuration that just sits on top of your desktop is amazing for the specs this Mac has a 20 core CPU 48 core GPU 32 core neural engine then it also has 64 gigs of unified memory and since the M1 is such an efficient computer it barely draws any power compared to other systems so it doesn't really make any fan noise which is also so great.

I'm using the Apple wireless magic keyboard and then for the mouse I'm using the steelseries Rival 3 Wired Mouse I am not a fan of Apple's Magic Mouse I think it's too small in the ergonomics of it like cramp my hand up it looks really good but it's not functional I like more of the gaming style mice because they fit your hand a lot better and they're lightweight I did have a steelseries wireless mouse before but I did return it because the click was way too loud and I found that the wireless would disconnect constantly it would take five to ten seconds every time the computer would go to sleep that was bugging me so I ended up returning it then going back to a Wired Mouse next we have the monitor this is the LG 5K 2K 40 inch Ultra wide monitor this was one of the only monitors that I could find that had a true 4K horizontal resolution which is 2160 and then you have the ultra wide aspect which makes it even wider than 4K so this mod monitor is beautiful it's very expensive but I will be coming out with a review on it shortly it has 10 bit color and accepts Thunderbolt 4 so I don't need to use a display port or HDMI I can literally just go out of the Mac Studios Thunderbolt 4 port in the back and go into the Thunderbolt 4 port on the back of the Monitor and that's all you need.

It's an extremely expensive monitor sitting around 2000 us but I was able to save about 500 bucks by buying it on Amazon Prime day and then there are a few other reasons which I'll explain in another video so I'm very happy with this monitor but you do pay for the quality and features it is quite expensive as for the stand I did remove the stand and replace it with a desk Mount version for it and then the stand itself wasn't taking up space on the table and therefore I could have the Mac Studio in the dead center there's nice symmetry on the desk and the design overall looks better then for the speakers these are the Yamaha hs8 monitors now they're gigantic and these are about a thousand dollars however I was able to get them for about six hundred fifty dollars used so I jumped on the deal and they ended up being white which works well with the Aesthetics of the desk the large size of them as well played well with the LG 40 inch ultrawide monitor.

I did have my old speakers on the desk but they were kind of small and it looked a little bit dorky so I wasn't really happy with it so I'm glad I upgraded to these and then for the voiceover vocal mic I'm using the Shure sm7b which is sort of like your standard go to mic it sounds very good but it's expensive and I'm gonna put out a video in the future comparing a 50 mic on Amazon compared to this 500 mic which actually you need to use with the cloud lifter so it's more like 700 so that'll be an interesting video but anyway the mic and the two monitors are connected into the focusrite 18i8 which is the sort of audio sound card for my computer it allows me to plug in mics the two speakers connecting them as the outputs and then the headphones go to there as well then I have another product from Ikea which is their floating shelf I think this is the longest version that they sell as a floating shelf the same as the desk the build quality is not great.

That being said though the bracket that comes with it was uh designed and made very well there's a lot of holes all over it which make connecting it to the wall the studs or if you're using anchors very easy so for the textured backdrop this is another product that I found on Amazon it's basically just 3D wall prism panels they look really like futuristic and modern they really add a lot of textured Aesthetics to the desk and they're super easy to work with I made the mistake of using construction adhesive to put them on the wall so I wouldn't recommend putting them up with a construction adhesive I ended up putting above the floating shelf more of those 3D wall panels This Time with velcro and it was so much easier and I wish I did that for all of it it's better when you can and when it makes sense to be less destructive when you're working on especially creative projects and finally I would say equally as important to the final look is the tube light that sits on the wall behind me now this light is another Amazon product.

It's not that expensive for all of the features it has and honestly I was kind of Blown Away this light looks so good you can go from zero percent to 100 so you can dim it it has a whole bunch of custom presets to go through different like colors and it's fully RGB so you can change the color to whatever color you want you can make it change over time or you could create your own custom presets for it this one is just like your standard solid white color at around like five percent brightness yeah it's highly customizable and I would highly recommend this light I do find those additional modes kind of distracting so if I'm editing I tend to keep it on this mode instead then beyond that there's just some small things that over time I will add to the desk.

So far I've added the little leather pad on the top I've added two plants on the top of the floating shelf they're just fake plants from again I think like Ikea and that's again just part of the Aesthetics with the decor that helps bring everything together. So yeah I'm very happy with the desk and again I'll leave the links in the description for any of the products that I mentioned in case you do want to get something set up for yourself.
