Apple M1 & M2 Chips Are A GAME CHANGER For Video Editors & Creators - Apple M1 & M2 Chips Are A GAME CHANGER For Video Editors & Creators - In this video, Will talks about Apple's new Silicon chips M1 and M2. They are extremely powerful and consume very little power compared to anything else on the market and for those reasons and several others, they are game changers for video editors, video creators and anyone looking to increase their productivity.

When apple first announced that they're not going with intel anymore and they've developed their own chip the apple m1 silicon i didn't realize how big of a deal was going to be and how much of a game changer it was going to be for creators but after doing a bit more research and seeing some comparisons between that and other systems i decided to surprise ali with a new m1 macbook pro i realized quickly that she was going to completely stop using her pc which is a higher end custom pc desktop you know it's a big bulky loud system and this new m1 macbook pro is completely silent it's super powerful and she literally loves it and uses it all the time so that's what it really clicked for me so in this video we'll discuss all the reasons why i think this is such a game changer.

So yeah when apple announced that they're not going to be using intel anymore everyone sort of scratched their head and then i guess ultimately assumed that they would uh just be making something in-house or switching manufacturers and i think very few anticipated including me just how good of a move and how smart of a move it was to switch from another manufacturer to doing things themselves as you may know there's a few different versions of the m1 silicon chip there's the m1 m1 pro m1 max m1 ultra and each one even just the regular m1 is incredibly powerful and efficient and when i say efficient i mean that it can do extremely complex tasks while producing far less energy consumption than other systems and that is a huge deal because if you've ever used a laptop pretty much any laptop or even desktop computers you'll notice that the fans get very loud way too bad so because the m1 chip is built directly into the motherboard along with everything else it allows it to be extremely efficient at managing power consumption and that means it's not going to make this really loud distracting fan noise like other laptops or desktops and that's because it's just producing less heat so i'm still working on the windows pc from 2018 that we custom built and ali has completely switched to her m1 macbook pro she has the m1 max she says it does everything that the pc did and more. The playback, the exporting, the convenience and portability, everything is just better about it, so she really doesn't even turn on her pc anymore.

And i gotta admit i'm definitely jealous of her m1 mac because i can see every single day how much time she saves compared to me working still on my pc eventually i'll probably buy the m1 ultra max studio which looks amazing and it's getting amazing reviews but i'm kind of hoping they released the m1 ultra in the macbook pro that would be ideal because you'd get the speed of the mac studio with the portability of a laptop similarly to how it doesn't overheat and cause this really loud fan noise the ram is also built right into the motherboard which means 16 gigabytes unified on the mac system acts more like 32 gigabytes on other systems if you're used to working with 32 gigs of memory 16 may not seem like enough but it actually is on these m1 macbook pros you may have worked on a big editing project where your computer is running at full power the fans are really loud and it doesn't seem as responsive and that's because it isn't as responsive when the fans run really loudly it's using a lot more energy to try and cool down the system and because of that it lacks in a little bit of processing power comparing that to the m1 chip the game changer is the fact that apple has figured out a way to push their hardware a lot further so by apple redesigning and reimagining the way computers are built they've allowed their systems to operate much cooler which means they're going to get a lot more power out of their systems as opposed to other competitors so competitors just literally can't keep up so beyond the incredible power of the m1 chip and the future possibility of connecting multiple m1 chips together this has created a scenario where apple now has a much higher standard for quality over other manufacturers.

This is essentially the first time you can work on incredibly complex and intense projects all on a laptop the apple m1 chip is seriously so powerful and in most cases the m1 chip is going to be more than enough for most people i would say the m1 ultra chip and whatever they're planning on doing for the mac pros is completely overkill i mean even for really intense 3d work it gives you a ridiculous amount of power i think what we'll find over the coming months is a lot of video creators or photographers videographers or in general creators will switch from a windows pc to mac or people will simply just double down on the max they own and buy the m1 because it is so convenient so powerful so i think at this point in the video you could probably guess that i would recommend the m1 to pretty much anyone who creates things after seeing ally use hers and completely neglect her pc it really is a game changer for creators and the price is actually pretty reasonable compared to pc builds or other laptops on the market if you are planning on buying an m1 mac you're probably perfectly fine just going with the entry level max studio if you do have a little bit of extra money and you want to have your system a little more future proof sure spend the extra money that's probably what i will do but again just the basic m1 in either the macbook pro or the mac studio is completely overkill for most tasks that you will do.

I've used pcs and macs for about 15 years now windows pcs can get the job done of course and they are cheaper so that is definitely a point for windows i went through two or maybe even three pcs before i bought a mac and i put thousands of hours into both systems i've found that macs are far more reliable and i'd rather spend a little bit more for that peace of mind of reliability i find windows pcs the hardware tends to be a lot more plastic whereas on apple you get a lot more metal or at least more durable plastics i actually have a friend who their normal habit every day was they get home they take off their backpack and sort of toss it to the ground and one day they came home after about a week of owning a macbook pro they took off their backpack forgot that the macbook pro was in it threw it onto the ground like they normally would heard the thud said ran over picked it up and everything was fine so if i compare that to the windows pc laptop that i used during film college to do my editing if i would have dropped that i can pretty much guarantee that functionally it would not be working in all honesty i don't even know where my first two pc desktops are or even my windows pc laptop probably in some like landfill now but anyway at some point something failed or something broke and they stopped working so i had to upgrade i still have my early 2008 macbook pro tower it works exactly the same as when i bought it now of course it is slow but again it still works to this day and second to that in 2013 i bought a 2013 macbook pro but everything still works on it's more of my like converting computer i'll just use it if i need to convert a file or if i need to do emails or zoom calls with clients or play anything on the projector so again every mac i've owned still works to this day and i still own it whereas every pc except for the one that we built in 2018 um doesn't exist anymore.

So that's it for this video and my thoughts on the m1 max they are incredible very powerful very efficient and if you have a macbook pro it's incredibly convenient i would not recommend any other computer i've even seen online that creators that have used pcs their whole life that are now switching to the mac pro and using that exclusively alright so i hope you liked this video if you liked it give it a thumbs up and subscribe to see more videos from us in the future we have over 100 filmmaking tutorials on the channel that you can learn from we release about one video a week and if you're interested in any of the equipment we use to make these videos or the music we use in the edits i'll leave the links in the description thanks so much for watching and we'll see you next time.
