In this video, I'm going to show you how to export Alpha channels in DaVinci. I gotta say, I haven't seen anyone yet share how to do this in a way that's going to make their files small while still looking really good. And I'm currently working on a tutorial about how to color correct in DaVinci for beginners, and I'm doing my best to make sure that it's like truly beginner friendly. So, to stay in the loop and see that video when it comes out, subscribe to our channel. And now, let's hop into the video.
Okay, so we're into DaVinci Resolve, and just to give you an idea of some possibilities, you can create transparent backgrounds for pre-made social media tags, titles, and Resolve even people. And if you do want to learn how to isolate a person from the background of a clip like I've done here, let me know in the comments below.
Exporting Alpha channels is really great because you can do stuff like this. Okay, so let's look at how to export this social media tag by going over to the deliver page. Under custom export, where it says file name, you can call it whatever you'd like. Under location, decide where you want to save it. Make sure "Render for single clip" is selected. Under format, let's choose MP4.
Under codec, let's choose H.265. H.265 is a newer codec that will create a much smaller file size than something like H.264, and that's why we're choosing it. Depending on your needs, you can change your resolution and frame rate. For me, 1920 by 1080 HD works for resolution and a frame rate of 24 is great. And make sure you checkmark export Alpha. If we didn't, then our exported video would have this black background showing in it.
Choose "Restrict 2" because H.265 is so good at compressing into smaller file sizes while also maintaining a high quality. I only set it to around 14,000 kilobytes per second. And if you want to know the best export settings in DaVinci, then check out my best export settings tutorial. I will link it in the description below.
Let's pop over to audio. Uncheck "Expert Audio" because with the social media tag, I don't have any accompanying audio. Select "Add to Render Queue," and choose "Render All."
Let's pop back over to the edit page where I have this clip and import media. Select your export, open, drag it on top of your footage, and there we go! I use the social media tag Alpha channel in every one of my YouTube videos, so it comes in super handy that I have this file with a transparent background. And there you go, that's how easy it is to create an alpha channel in DaVinci Resolve.
We just released a book for creative entrepreneurs that I wish we had 10 years ago when we were starting out because it would have saved us thousands of hours of time and it would have saved us a lot of money. It's a book I believe is really going to help a lot of people get on the right path to success and get a lot more clear about what they want out of their business and how to make that happen. Check out the link below; it's on sale right now.
If you like the music that you hear in this video or you want to know what gear we use and recommend, then check out the description below. And I hope to see you again next week.
