Top 10 KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS to EDIT FASTER DaVinci Resolve - In this DaVinci Resolve tutorial Alli shows you her Top 10 Most Used DaVinci Resolve Keyboard Shortcuts, plus a few bonuses. She also shows you how to customize your own!

There's nothing that makes me happier than keyboard shortcuts because they just save you a ton of time. So in this video, I'm going to share my top 10 that I use every day. I'll also show you how you can customize your own. Now let's hop into Resolve.

I work on a Mac, so I'll be speaking Mac language when I share these keyboard shortcuts, but I will also share the PC versions as well. First things first, let's go up to DaVinci Resolve keyboard customization. On the top right, this drop-down menu gives you options to use Resolve's default keyboard shortcuts or, if you're coming from another program and you want to stick with the keyboard shortcuts you're used to, say from like Premiere Pro, you can choose one of these. You can also see here I have a few keyboard shortcut presets saved. If you ever need to delete any of them, you can do so by clicking on these three little dots: delete preset, select it, delete, save, and close.

If you select a clip, hold down Alt or Option, and drag it over, when you let go you'll have a duplicate of that clip, which is indicated by this green highlight here. I'll show you how to turn this feature on coming up. If you want to cut a clip, you could press B on your keyboard and then click where you want the cut. I'll just press Command Z on my keyboard to undo that, or you could easily make your cut point wherever your playhead is by pressing Command B.

Press Option Y and everything to the right is selected. If you want to, say, deselect the music, just hold down the Command or Control key on your keyboard and click on it. Now you can easily move this entire chunk of clips over to the right more.

You probably know that to create an in-point you press I, to create an out-point you press O, and this is how you would select a specific part of your timeline to render out. But do you know how to clear your in-and-out point? This drove me crazy before I figured it out. You could go up to Mark and choose Clear In and Out, but who's going to remember that you have to go up to Mark with all these other options? Instead, just press Option or Alt X on your keyboard and voila, your in-and-out point is gone.

On a side note, if you want to know our favorite drive, it's right here. We edit off of it because it's super fast, tiny, and portable. If you want to know any of the gear that we use on commercial shoots and YouTube, check out the description below.

Okay, I didn't know this one until recently and it's super helpful. This clip is slow-mo and I want to speed it up. With it selected, press Command or Control R on your keyboard, which brings up this speed change thingy. Select up here and drag inwards to speed up your shot as much as you'd like.

You know when you want to move a clip up beside another clip, but sometimes you accidentally trim some of the other clip? Well, if you turn snap on using the keyboard shortcut N, now when we try that, this clip will snap nicely to the other without accidentally trimming into it.

You may already know that pressing M will create a marker, but did you know that if you press MM you'll also be able to open up your marker window so you can add a title, notes, and so on? Neat. I use this one a lot. Press T on your keyboard and now when you scrub over this clip left or right, you can move over the part of your clip that shows within the duration you have that shot on screen for. This white border shows how much more of the clip there is on either end.

I will tell you now before I forget, if you want to see these highlights that indicate your clip is a duplicate, all you got to do is go up to View and turn on Show Duplicate Frames. Now I want to show you a few keyboard shortcuts I customized because they didn't previously exist. Go up to DaVinci Resolve keyboard customization. Under Command, make sure you have All Commands selected and let's search for Delete Gaps. Over here, click to add the custom shortcut Command or Control G. Press Save and you'll be asked to make a new preset. Name it whatever you'd like. Okay, and close. Now click on your timeline to select it and when you press Command G, all of the gaps here will be removed. I'm just going to lock my music track so it doesn't interfere, and I'll press Command G again and all of our clips are now side by side.

If you want to create a compound clip, which is like nesting a clip if you come from a Premiere background, what you have to do is right-click on your clip, then choose New Compound Clip, and that's just too many clicks. So let's assign a keyboard shortcut to this command. Search for Compound Clip, New Compound Clip, and let's assign Option C. Save and close. Test it out by pressing Option C and there you go.

Let's say you're super zoomed in on your program window and you want to just go back to fit screen nice and fast. All you got to do is press Z. If you want to speed up playback when you're watching a clip, press L and every time you press L it will go faster and faster. K pauses and J goes backwards. Last but not least, this is another one that I use all the time and you probably will too. To watch your playback full screen, all you got to do is press P.

Awesome. There you go. Those are my favorite keyboard shortcuts. Which one do you think you're going to use the most? Let me know in the comments below. Ooh, and I just released a video showing five creative masking techniques and one of them I've never seen taught anywhere. So check that video out next to learn my masking secrets. I hope this video was helpful to you and that you have a lovely day. We'll see you in the next video.
