This Camera Blew My Mind - Insta 360 One X2 REVIEW

In this video I review the Insta360 One X2, it’s a tiny camera that can fit in your pocket and packs a punch! The Insta360 One X2 has completely changed the way I think about creating videos whenever I need an action shot, or uniquely creative shot. It’s so simply to use and the footage you can capture is mind blowing. This camera blew my mind.

This is what being a dad looks like when you're trying to edit she fell asleep and now i can't make any noise but it's worth it that's worth it back to another video guys in this one we're talking about this camera right here which is the insta 360 one x2 i'm gonna talk about the pros and cons to this camera as well as my thoughts on the camera as a whole let's jump i.

First off let's talk about 360 video for a second because it's important to understand the differences between shooting regular footage and 360 footage you'll see on this camera that there is a lens on this side but there's also a lens on the other side that will allow this camera to capture footage everywhere meaning in front of the camera behind the camera to the sides up and down it captures everything and then you can decide later how you want to work with that footage for obvious reasons that is incredibly powerful but it can also really slow down your workflow if you want to capture in 360 and then upload in 360 platforms do support that but for me personally i like to capture in 360 on this camera and then export to 4k the reason being i can use this camera to capture b-roll and re-frame the 360 footage and get exactly the frame i want after i was just editing the footage and i thought i could use another voiceover part that would be fun to show you a little bit of the behind the scenes of this.

So i got my script up here and i'll start reading for example here's a clip i filmed where i chose in the app to frame only the skateboarder and have him show on screen for the entire time but let's say i want a behind the scenes of how i film this typically i'd need a second camera and maybe even another person following along as well but with a 360 camera all i have to do is spend a few extra seconds in the app repositioning the frame and then you're good to go you don't need to film a second clip so this second clip i literally just reframed the footage from the same clip to then show only myself filming for the entire time.

I'll touch a bit more on the 360 part of this camera a little later on but you will notice off the bat that this camera is really small you can also get a selfie stick where you can extend it and attach it to the bottom and then you can fit it in really tight spaces which i would say is the best feature of this camera beyond the 360 capabilities and because this is really all there is plus a charging cable you can fit it in your pocket or put it in your backpack there's really no reason or excuse why you wouldn't bring this with you and that allows you to always have a camera ready to go beyond your phone that can get a little more creative with the shots if an opportunity comes up one of the craziest features with the insta360 that when i originally got it i didn't understand how it was doing it is it will automatically remove the selfie stick so even if you have the selfie stick fully extended to like five or six feet or if you bought even a longer one it will completely remove the selfie stick automatically from your footage it's honestly magic until you start to understand what it's doing the first time i took this out i went to a local skate park and i had it extended and i was just trying to film myself as i skated to get some clips and i had a person come up to me and say why are you skating with a stick? and i had to explain to them that it's actually a camera and there's two lenses, it can shoot in 360, and it paints out the pole, and they were like totally blown away.

That's honestly the response i get with everybody because it's such a weird thing you can film yourself but at the same time you can film somebody else just by in the app turning the footage around so it always gets people asking some questions regarding the plugin app that you can install into premiere pro to work with the 360 footage it kept crashing premiere pro so i decided to not use that so i actually downloaded the insta360 standalone app and i found that to work pretty well it's a little bit more of a workflow because obviously you're not working inside premiere pro and you can't make adjustments on the fly but if it's my only option that's what i'm going with right now another thing that people don't realize when you're working with 360 footage is before you can start editing you have to sort of prep the footage and have it set up in order to use that 360 footage you can even change it so you can have a frame looking this way and then halfway through add a keyframe and then it shifts this way so you get really creative with the actual camera movement of it as well in post-production because some of the footage is a little bit grainy.

It's great that insta360 within their app has included the option of exporting with a denoiser added that means it'll clean up the footage not perfectly but i was actually surprised it did a pretty good job the other con would be if you're facing the sun in a direction where the selfie stick will cast a shadow you're gonna see the shadow maybe this is something they can fix in the future that would be awesome but i can see how that also might cause some problems another option within 360 footage is the option to make a mini world out of your footage it takes the whole rectangle frame footage or a photo and sort of zooms out into this like mini world environment obviously this footage is pretty limited i can't think of many scenarios where you'd want to do that but it does look cool beyond that since you are filming in 360 that means you're capturing everywhere you can edit your whole video by exporting you know horizontal clips but then later on if you wanted to repurpose that video to vertical you could go back to the raw videos change all the clips to vertical and that actually reframes the footage because again it's 360 and you're capturing everything at once.

It does come with a battery that can be removed so you can buy extra batteries i would say the battery on it is decent for me going out and filming some skateboarding clips it's enough for what i need however if you're taking it out for the full day i would definitely recommend picking up some additional batteries think of it like a gopro the battery is only so big it'll tend to drain the batteries i did get a few hours out of it on one battery charge being able to use a 360 camera it opens up a whole new set of techniques that i can implement into my videos and of course that's going to make it not only more fun to make but the videos themselves are going to be more engaging another awesome thing with this camera is you can pretty much trick people into thinking you have a drone so that means you can get drone-like footage in areas where you're not allowed to fly your drone if you get a long enough selfie stick like even this five foot one if you extend it because the lens is a wider lens and then in the 360 video you can expand it and sort of zoom out even further the footage you can capture will look like it's pretty high above you and again because it paints out this selfie stick. It will look like drone footage.

The insta 360 one x2 does feature some slow motion capabilities however i found the footage to be one very grainy but two also looks like the bitrate is just very very low because it's squishing out all the bitrate among all the new frames for slow motion so the footage is pretty low quality and i probably wouldn't use it in client work especially in low light this camera is definitely not something you want to use in low light it just completely breaks apart there's artifacts in your footage and yeah just really really noisy so who is this camera for i would say anyone that wants to change up their style of filming or incorporate a couple different types of shots into your footage this is also good for real estate shooters either photographers or videographers because the 360 footage allows you to do house tours so you could set it up on a tripod and then later on use that 360 captured photo or video to create a house tour for your clients beyond that it's just a really good travel camera because it's so small it's like a gopro so if you're going snowboarding skiing if you're going on a trip there's no excuse to not bring it with you it really is an impressive camera for the price as well as you know the features that come with it and how different it is from your traditional style like mirrorless camera so if you're having trouble deciding which cam to get whether it's this one or some sort of other creative style camera i would select this one over the other ones because not only does it do all of the features from the other one but they've made the app really really good so on your phone after you're recording you can then reframe add keyframes export it to your phone and the footage you get is just like how did you get that.

Oh yeah i forgot that this camera can go in the water it is fully waterproof so you can go diving with it you can you know go swimming with it it obviously will have a limitation for how deep you can go really really cool that they sealed this enough that you can bring it in the water and do 360 footage underwater one thing that you have to be very careful with when using this camera is the fact that the lenses are exposed on both sides so if you put this down or if the camera falls chances are you're going to scratch the lens because it's completely exposed i always keep the little case that it comes with because then you can at least cover it and still access the card or the battery or the charging port below make sure that whoever's using it they're aware that both sides have a lens you can't just simply place it down somewhere so that's it for this review video i think it's an awesome camera definitely worth the price and i definitely think you should get it again this is not sponsored but i will leave a link in the description if you like this video give it a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel we have over 120 review videos and tutorials that you can learn from we put out about one video a week thanks so much for watching and we'll see you next time.
